Mission Statement
The Cluck and Quack
Poultry Club encourages the cultivation of Standard ("Pure Bred") Birds and animals
to conserve Heritage Breeds. The club expresses its ethical concern as
to the appropriate housing, feeding and welfare of all captive creatures
at all times.
Purpose
The purpose of
the club is to connect people with the same interests of
raising poultry, waterfowl, pigeons and other exotic and domestic
animals and birds in order to exchange information, provide contacts and
promote accepted standards. The club provides opportunities for members to
increase their knowledge in the intricacies of raising
critters, to purchase and sell them and opportunities for
members to display them for judging purposes.
Meetings
Meetings are
generally held, pre and post, events and exhibits with an AGM
(Annual General Meeting) held on, or before November 30th. Meetings
are held at various locations. The place/date and time of the next
meeting is shown on this web site. The meeting minutes are e-mailed
to members to keep them informed of the club’s activities.
The club hosts exhibitions and
displays at various cultural and agricultural events. The annual
Spring Auction of Purebred & Heritage Breeds is held in April. In
September the club holds a Farmers’ market style
Fall Sale, open to all
vendors, which includes poultry, small animals, equipment, crafts,
preserves, vegetables, hobbies, your garage sale items etc. It has
an enormous turnout and vendors are extremely happy with their
sales. In November the club hosts an APA sanctioned Poultry Show
that is judged by an APA approved judge. It is open to members and
non-members and has been attended by exhibitors from Ontario to
Alberta.
Who are the members?
The
members of the club have experience ranging from just starting out
with birds, all the way to 25+ years of enjoying the hobby. The club
also has a library of books pertaining to poultry standards as well
as their care.
Members Critters
The club's members own everything from Bantams, Standard Chickens, Ducks,
Turkeys, Guinea Fowl, Peacocks, Pheasants, Pot-bellied Pigs, Rabbits,
Goats, Sheep, Llamas, Alpacas, Pigeons, Quail and probably more.
Membership Directory
Several times per
year, members receive an updated copy of a Membership Directory
which lists everything each member owns. Useful if you are looking
for a particular breed and/or want to buy from club members. The
Directory can also list your at-home business. We ask that our
members keep their inventories of birds/animals current.
